Corowa Distilling Co Cooperage

Murray River Cooperage

The Murray River Cooperage is set amongst the prestigious Rutherglen wine region, in the tourist town of Corowa, New South Wales, nested right on the banks of the mighty Murray River. Directed by John Carberry who has been a Master Cooper in Scotland’s best cooperages for over 30 years, he brings his expertise and passion for barrel making to life in our small town of Corowa. Building and restoring barrels, the cooperage uses traditional tools and methods to craft each barrel by hand.

The Murray River Cooperage is a traditional cooperage where we use traditional tools & methods. John loves to use his hands. He specializes in repairing casks and rejuvenating, resizing and making new casks up to 500L. We are a growing business, predominately servicing the whisky industry resizing, rejuvenating and repairing casks with the help of apprentice Ciaran learning the ancient craft of cooperage dating back thousands of years.

The cooperage will be onsite at the Distillery in the near future where you can come in and watch first hand John and his team create the art that is coopering first hand.
